Though Athren had found himself blasting through space to Yardrat with a mass amount of free time, he didn't allow himself to dwell on his emotions and feelings. Even though he had just lost his baby girl and his little boy and that pain was still fresh, he had a new set of goals that the pain had only motivated him to reach. He needed to bring them back to the world of the living and Namek had the means to do that but before Athren could reach out to Namek to gather the Dragon Balls, he'd need to be prepared. The opponent that he had faced wasn't like anything he had every experienced before, he didn't know the guys name or even the guys race, all he knew was that he was incredibly strong. Athren couldn't help but think that if he went to a planet that was occupied by the PTO, he'd have to be ready to face him again but this time, Athren knew he'd have to win. There wouldn't be any second chance at this, there wouldn't be any do-overs. If he died, restoring his children back to the land of the living was hopeless and it would die with him.
He needed to be focused and ready, he'd have to dig through the pain that felt like it was weighing him down and preventing him from acting and use it to push him to get this done. His kids didn't deserve the fate that they had suffered and it was up to him to make it right. Though he did spend the first day of his travels idle around his ship mourning, thinking, and planning, he did in fact come up with something that would help.
He had seen such a technique before that an individual could move at intense speeds and leave images of themselves behind, multiple in fact and Athren had always liked the concept of this. Not only could it throw off his opponent, but it could also provide a fake target that they would have hit and leave them open to a counter-attack. Now Athren was well aware that he was lacking in both offensive and defensive techniques and wanted to improve upon and learn new ones of both, but he felt like he had the time now. There was no time like the present and given that his entire world had just crashed down around him, there was really no better time to do this.
He was going to take the technique that he saw all those years ago and craft it into his own, he'd call it the Nova Image and make the best of it. Though his list of ideas and techniques was large, he would start here and work on others later. He figured by the time he reached Yardrat, he'd have this one mastered and down pat, plus it would give him a good opportunity to use his gravity chamber and get stronger overall, and he damn well knew he needed all the power that he could get.
It was at this time he made his way to the lowest floor of his ship, the Gravity Chamber room. The room was set up rather nicely, it was full of the top-of-the-line workout equipment, training dummies, showers, and a lobby to take a break-in, this room was specifically designed for Athren to get the absolute most out of. He had spent a very vast amount of time here, training away to become stronger and to be better than he was the day before.
Though the physical wounds were still present on his body, they had been treated appropriately by Ayu. She had wrapped them up to stop the bleeding and aid in the healing process but they still hurt, but the pain wasn't enough to prevent him from getting training in today. He had to push forward, for his children, for their future. It didn't much matter how much his body hurt, this was all for them, but now that he had found himself in his gravity chamber, it was time to do this.
He had walked into the center of the room and powered up to his maximum, preparing to endure the full force of the gravity chamber. "Turn on Gravity at seventy-five percent!" Athren exclaimed as the rooms lights shifted to a shade of red to give a visual warning to all those who may have dared entered at one point. "Gravity Activating in three, two, one..." The robotic voice had taken on a brief pause as Athren felt the weight of the gravity trying to pull him down to the floor. "Gravity Activated at Seventy-five percent."
The weight had made it much more difficult to stand, he felt the wound on his thigh ache more as the muscles took more weight and endured, but it wasn't nearly enough to put him down and request to stop. He was going to pull through this, he was going to tank through this and damn well make sure he finished his objective. He needed to learn the Nova Image, today. Though he had lots of time, he didn't want to waste a second of it. If he mastered this technique today, he could master another one tomorrow! As Athren had stood strong, he blurted out another command for the system. "Activate the training dummy! Defensive Training Six!" Though for this command there was no audio to confirm the command, the training dummy would power up and begin moving towards Athren. The program Athren was running would make the dummy attack him frequently and force him to dodge and move quickly, the more he did this the more he'd find himself being prepared to leave an image behind. He preferred training in the most realistic setting possible and it made sense for him to learn a dodging technique while dodging real attacks. He'd be more motivated to avoid the attacks coming his way, even if they really didn't pack much of a punch.

It was almost instantly that the training dummy lunged forward and threw a punch toward Athren, his initial instinct was to redirect the punch and guide it away from his body but that wasn't his purpose here, he had to rely on his quick and rapid movements to form the technique that he had in mind. The punch was flying towards his face and quickly focusing on the task at hand he maximized his speed and moved away from the robot. The fist had breezed passed his former location but there wasn't an image left behind to be seen. That was the bonus of having this dummy, if Athren could see an image left behind, so would the robot. If Athren could create multiple images of himself, the robot itself would be confused and attack them at random until it landed its attack on its mark but the truth was, Athren wasn't going to let that happen. The dummy itself was far too slow under this training program to come close to hitting him.
Now that Athren had relocated, the dummy had once again turned to lock onto its target. It rushed forward once more, it's metal feet clanking against the hard, solid floor of the gravity chamber. This time it had pressed off with it's mechanical legs and launched itself forward, its right elbow being launched again at Athren's face but just like last time, in a very swift movement Athren had found himself behind the robot and the robot itself had missed its mark. Athren was simply too fast to be hit by such an outdated piece of technology but that wasn't it's purpose right now. It didn't need to hit him, it just had to give him the proper motivation to move rapidly and as he thought before, it would confirm his technique would be working the way it was intended by simply targeting images of him that weren't actually him! It was almost too perfect, though in the back of his mind he did make a note to potentially get somebody to update this damn thing, maybe to a point it'd even give him a fight!
This pattern would carry on for a solid hour or two, attack after attack would be sent towards Athren but he'd dodge them at rapid speeds. Each and every time, he would fail to leave an image of himself behind. That fact alone had confused Athren, at the speeds he was moving he thought that it would have worked but it simply just wasn't? Though failing, again and again he wasn't going to allow himself to get discouraged, for he had only just begun and he couldn't help but think that once he left the first image, it would have to get easier after that.
Even though he wasn't leaving an image behind, Athren didn't slow down his pace. "Speed up the attacks!" He exclaimed as the robot listened, getting more and more aggressive with its attacks. These attacks wouldn't be strong, but it would attack him at a much faster rate, providing the saiyan with more opportunities to dodge. Dodge after dodge, Athrne just wasn't getting it. His skin was covered in sweat from the work he was doing and the pain from his leg had finally stopped, he had worked through it. He knew it'd be sore the day after but that wasn't a concern right now, right now the only concern was getting this done and finishing it!
He kept up, never stopping and never slowing down, not even for a break or a sip of water. The saiyan was too damned stubborn and determined to take even a moment to collect himself or hydrate. What he really needed to see was progress, an image left behind, the robot attacking something that wasn't him, just something to show him that he was taking a step in the right direction! As the sweat poured and poured, he didn't stop.
As time carried the distraction had begun to do something to him that he wasn't even paying attention too, the thoughts of what had happened on Earth faded to the back of his mind, they had no longer been the primary thought. The pain had faded, even temporarily as he found distractions in his training. The faces of his baby girl or son as they died faded and when they had finally faded, his next dodge would have left something that he liked to see.
During an incoming attack the saiyan rapidly moved aside and this time he watched with his ocean blues as the robot had been attacking an image of himself in the pose that he had been in before he had moved. Building upon his success and before another attack could even come his way Athren had moved again and for the second time an image of himself had remained and the training robot would scan around and lock onto that, thrusting its fist through the spot Athren had been standing and the image had faded away. Though Athren succeeded, he wanted to run this through a handful of times to make sure he had it down pat and once he was confident that he could pull it off consistently, he'd move to make more images of himself.
The next hour had gone by very quickly and Athren would leave image after image behind, with each dodge it had felt so much easier. His mind was completely free of the anger and the doubt he had felt just hours before, his mind was crystal clear and at the moment, there was nothing holding him back now. He had been free of himself if only temporarily but it provided him with everything he needed to see this through, and with image after image consistently being left behind he was happy with the results and knew that it was time to move onto the next step, his plan was now to leave three images in three different locations, all through using this technique and his rapid movement. The more targets he could leave behind to confuse an opponent, the better off he'd be.

Now that Athren had finished off the most basic version of this technique and managed to leave behind a single image of himself, it was time to evolve it. After shutting everything down and grabbing a drink and some food, he'd find himself right back in the gravity chamber and ready to go. He was feeling quite refreshed and focused after his break and the thoughts of his children had remained away, for now, he had found himself busy and occupied, there wasn't any room for them to slip into the forefront of his mind again. Surely, the horrific thoughts and feelings would return to him but for now, he was free and preparing himself to get them back to the land of the living. Even though wish-granting Dragon Balls seemed like it was such a crazy, far-fetched idea he had complete trust in Ukare. Ukare had given his life for him, and had attempted to save Athren's children, he bet his life on this and Athren had to see it through for everybody.
Athren had once again found himself in his gravity chamber with his activated to seventy-five times Earth's gravity and the training dummy was once again activated. He had really felt like this wouldn't be as difficult now that he had the most basic step learned and executed perfectly. All he really had to do was take what he had already learned and apply it multiple times rapidly, there really wasn't too much of a challenge at this point.
The thing about Athren was that he was usually a very quick learner, maybe the initial curve and understanding were difficult but once he grasped that kind of thing, he could usually manage to improve and pump out variations of techniques rather quickly. He was a true warrior at heart but he was still rather intelligent and gifted, he had spent a whole lifetime building up his skills and combat power, he had spent hours observing and learning all about techniques and Ki control, he wasn't a novice and a lot of this kind of thing had come very naturally. Plus it helped the basis of this technique was moving quickly. That was something he was very capable of.
Without spending any more time in thought Athren would get right back into it, speaking out to activate the training dummy once again he was ready to move and get back to it! Just like previously Athren now had no issues creating images of himself in a place he once was, he moved so swiftly and elegantly that he even managed to make the images copy a simple movement of his. Now this movement wasn't anything special, it was a simple move of the arm or a change of stance, yet it was enough to make it seem like it was really him. He rinsed and repeated this time and time again as the robot had kept up on it's offensive.
It didn't take long before Athren began to chain his movements together, he'd move quickly to one spot and leave an image behind only to move to another and another, and what remained behind was a total of three images of himself. It became very clear that the robot had no idea which target to attack first so it had simply made it's way through each and every one of the images until focusing on Athren once more. Though it had made another attempt to strike the demon saiyan hybrid, Athren once again had managed to get out of the way and leave behind three images of himself, though this time each of them had moved ever so slightly.
The robot had cut through them all again. Feeling like he had this part down, Athren would go on to repeat this time and time again until he was satisfied with it, though it being such a simple and novice technique, it wouldn't take him very long to get it perfect in this stage. There had still been one more step he wanted to take after this but that wouldn't be much harder than this. He had worked this technique from the ground up, building upon what he had just practiced before and that's how he was going to keep doing this. Athren would spend roughly another hour repeating this, creating three moving images of himself to throw off his training dummy and every time he did it, they had just gotten better and better. Athren had run through this time and time again until he was completely satisfied and comfortable with the outcome.
Once he had finished the second stage of the evolution of this technique, he'd start to focus on the next. So far he was rather happy with the progress, it was a very simple technique though it'd be very useful. It'd provide him with chances to counter-attack an unsuspecting opponent. It would give him so many more options to find an opening on an opponent and do some damage and it would also provide him a means to avoid damage. It was a win-win all around and he was actually looking forward to using it in a real fight. Though this wasn't the only technique he was going to work on. He had many more in mind for defensive purposes, ones to match an opponent's attack instead of avoiding it.
For now, though, he'd keep his mind focused on this one final task. He figured he was nothing more than an hour or two away at best from mastering this technique in its best form, in its most beneficial. Without taking a break for water or food, he'd dive right into it and keep the training going. He was right there and he needed to finish this now. The goal was simple, increase the images from three images to five. It shouldn't be much more difficult than the transition from one to five after all. Athren knew he'd have this in no time, now all he had to do was actually do it.

Now that Athren had nearly finished his technique training, he was going to carry on and master it to it's fullest extent. He was going to continue going and build off of the steps he had already completed. It was always the easiest way to learn a technique, start at its most basic form and once you got that under control and learned that effectively take a baby step and build upon it. That was how Athren always learned and improved upon his techniques or anything new that really came into play. It wasn't overwhelming and it usually wasn't difficult that way. Athren had always found that when somebody tried to master something quickly and started at one of the more advanced steps, they had always seemed to struggle through it. It would take much longer and be much more difficult, even if it were possible. That just wasn't how Athren operated, he liked being effective and quick with his training. The less time he spent mastering something, the better off he'd always find himself.
Athren had once again focused on the moment, his movements continued to be rapid and swift, executed with precision. Even though he was just moving himself around the room and avoiding being hit by the robot, he had a way around it that was rather elegant and smooth. No movement he made was rough or sloppy, his expertise had really shined through.
He moved around the room at great speeds with the training dummy following his every move, it kept striking through each and every single one of the images Athren left behind. Athren had gotten up to four and then five images trailing him. It didn't take very long for him to do this, after all his mind was crystal clear and focused on the task without distractions, this had allowed him to move at his best, his fastest and his most precise.
Athren had kept this training going on for a fair share amount of time, he wanted to run it through again and again until it was completely memorized by his body and his mind. He couldn't afford to have to think about how to do this technique, it had to come naturally and on the spot of demand, thinking about it or spending even a second to perform it could prove to be fatal and that was a position he wasn't allowing himself to be in, he refused to allow himself to lose or get hurt or even die because he wasn't prepared because he failed to do but a simple technique. That wasn't something in his playbook, that was something he wouldn't tolerate.
Failure as a whole now wasn't something he could accept. The lives of many relied on his success and he wasn't going to be one to let them down, he wasn't going to fail. It simply wasn't an option. He needed to live and win long enough to make his wish and after that? Well, it wouldn't matter then. He deserved whatever terrible thing fate had in store for him and he was well aware it was a matter of time until something or somebody brought their justice upon him and he accepted that, so long as it didn't curse the lives of his children. The plan was in motion, it was all there.
As the hours passed, Athren had finally found himself in a position that he was pleased with. The technique had come to be second nature already and its execution had been flawless. He didn't need to think about it or prepare it, he just acted upon it with reactionary instinct. He was confident that it was ready to be used in combat. It was now time to call it a day and get another meal into him and get some rest. Though he didn't know that the second he had nothing else to do, the pain and the horrific nightmares would come back and strike him again.
"Gravity, Deactivate." Athren exclaimed in the room as the gravity had shut down and the lights had went back from red to their normal white. The training dummy would be deactivated and Athren was ready to be done. Though he had to admit, after spending hours in the gravity it was nice to be back under normal circumstances, it was relaxing to his muscles and it made him feel rather light, almost as if he was floating in water.
With his training being done for the day, Athren had planned out to do more the following day. Maybe he'd work on his Nova Punch or develop something new, something inspired by a warrior that he had met on Earth. He wanted to increase his offensive capabilities as well. Looking back to his fight with Quash, he was rather limited by his techniques and found himself relying on both the Nova Cannon and the Nova Punch far too much, he needed to expand. He needed different techniques to optimize on situations, he couldn't just repeat the same technique again and again and hope they worked. The more he used something, the more his opponent would be prepared to handle it and that just wasn't something he was cool with.
He needed to stay fresh, always changing it up with his techniques, improving upon them and creating new ones. If he was planning to go to Namek, he knew he'd have one hell of a fight coming up and he needed to be ready, he needed an arsenal of techniques and he had to be at the top of his game. Losing wasn't an option and he needed to make sure that the chance of success was higher than the chance of failure and he truly believed that if he kept improving upon his own techniques and making new ones and learned of the techniques from Yardrat, he'd manage to win. He was a saiyan after all and he damn well knew he was capable of amazing things.
